FAQ's

Why didn’t I receive a revenue check this month?

Please allow 60-90 days to process documentation.

Payments are issued on or around the 10th calendar day of each month.

Payees are encouraged to enroll for electronic payment remittance.

For owners that choose to receive remittance by check, you may request in writing that any payments that have not been received within 30 days of issuance be voided and reissued.

Payments are considered stale and voided 6 months after issuance date. If the payment date is over 6 months of age, please contact owner relations to request the payment be reissued.

Sponte Operating, Inc. is not responsible for any fees assessed by a recipient’s banking institution for returned payment if the recipient deposits a payment that is stale dated.

Monthly payments are issued to royalty owners that have accumulated a balance of $100 or more. Once per calendar year, payments are issued to all owners that have a royalty balance that does not reach the $100 threshold.

Under the Texas Natural Resources Code Section 91.402(f), a royalty owner may make a written request to lower their accumulated payment threshold. Please refer to the TNRC for more information.

How can I change my information or sign up for electronic payment?

Please submit the form to enroll in electronic payment with a voided check to owner relations and allow 60-90 days for processing.

Forms received without a voided check will not be accepted.

Please submit the change of address form and allow 60-90 days for processing.

Recipients that have newly relocated should also submit the change of address to the USPS to ensure that any payments issued during your transition period will continue to be received.

If your name has changed due to marriage, divorce, or adoption please submit a copy of the appropriate legal documentation to owner relations proving the name change and allow 60-90 days for processing.

How can I transfer my interest to another party?

Please reference the Conveyance Reference Sheet for a summary of requirements dependent on your specific situation. Please allow 60-90 days to process any conveyance documentation after submitting.

Sponte Operating, Inc. must receive recorded copies of any Conveyance Documents before a transfer of ownership can be processed. Please ensure these are recorded in the county where the property is located.

For changes in ownership resulting from a sale or acquisition, please submit the recorded Conveyance Documentation to owner relations or mail to:

Please submit a copy of the Trust Agreement or Dissolution with the appropriate recorded documents conveying the interest into/out of the trust and allow 60-90 days for processing.

Tax and Form 1099 Frequently Asked Questions

Payments received for the sales of oil and gas are considered taxable income under Federal Law. Payors are required to withhold at a statutory rate for any payments to a payee that has not provided their tax identification number.

Tax identification information can be submitted using IRS Form W-9.

Payments received for the sales of oil and gas are considered taxable income under Federal Law. Working interest owners that receive a total of $600 or more in gross revenues in any calendar year will receive a 1099-NEC. Royalty owners that receive a total of $10 or more in gross revenues in any calendar year will receive a 1099-MISC.

We have provided an example of  Form 1099-MISC to further assist you.

Form 1099’s are distributed via hard copy mail in January of each calendar year.

Reporting requirements dictate that payors report revenue in the year that the payment was issued, regardless of when the owner receives or cashes the check.
